Antenatal Course with
The ChildBirth Group
*Please note due to Covid-19, all antenatal courses and birth option talks will be via Zoom until further notice*
Research shows that women and birthing people cope better with labour, birth and parenthood if they, and their birth partners have had practical and sound antenatal education. This helps to reduce fear and anxiety which enables you to feel positive and in control of what is happening to your body. Knowledge is power.
Many antenatal classes continue to focus either on labour and birth (which is essential and covered in the course!) However, they fail to address expectant parents' needs in relation to the reality of new parenthood. Parents have limited opportunities to gain an understanding of what to expect in the first few weeks after birth, and are therefore unprepared for the transition to parenthood.
As midwives, and advocates for all women and positive birth, we want to ensure you feel empowered throughout your incredible new journey. It is important you feel confident in asking questions throughout your pregnancy, birth, and during the postnatal period, and to understand the benefits and risks of your given care. Births may not always go to 'plan' as such, however you can have a positive experience, no matter how you birth your baby!
During the antenatal course, we provide you with latest evidence based information on pregnancy, birth, infant feeding and on the fourth trimester, to help you prepare for the birth of your baby and the foggy early newborn days.
You are supported whether you chose to have a vaginal birth or a caesarean section (abdominal birth), whether you chose to breast feed or bottle feed. What's important is that you have the knowledge and feel empowered throughout your journey to make the right decisions for you and your baby.
Classes are available in the Ewell and Epsom area, where you will meet other pregnant mamas... you get to meet 'your village'.
If a group isn't for you, private one-to-one classes can also be held in the comfort of your own home, during times and dates that suit you. You can also invite a pregnant friend and partners to join!
Private sessions can be adapted accordingly to meet your requirements. For example, if you would like to focus more on one particular topic this can be arranged. You can also make up your own antenatal package!
